Top Places to Mountain Bike Near St. George, Utah

Barrel Roll Trail

Just west of Santa Clara, you’ll find Barrel Roll Trail, an intermediate trail offering 6 miles total. This loop ride takes you through the stunning Santa Clara River Preserve and only offers an altitude change of around 400 feet, so it’s nothing that mid-level mountain bikers can’t handle. While this trail might be too tough for complete beginners, those with a little bit of experience will find perfect conditions. The trail is clearly marked and provide breathtaking views of the Pine Valley Mountains and the incredible desert conditions all around. 

Bearclaw Poppy Trail

Bearclaw Poppy Trail is located southwest of St. George and is part of the Green Valley Trail. You can find trailheads both at Green Valley and at Bloomington. As you ride through this section of land, you’ll have picturesque views of the Green Valley and Bloomington Hill around every turn. This is one of the most popular places for Utah mountain biking, and it’s not hard to see why! It’s not an incredibly tough ride but does have a few challenging climbs and drop-offs to keep you on your toes. One thing to keep in mind: don’t ride here after a rainstorm, or you could damage the trail.

Goosebumps Trail

Goosebumps Trial is a 5.1-mile trail that’s often discussed in conjunction with Cryptobionic, a 3.5-mile trail nearby. Most riders in the area choose to ride both trails together instead of just one. As for Goosebumps itself, this trail has a lot of fast ups and downs, making it more suited for advanced riders. Since there are so many other trails nearby, you can truly customize this journey to be as long or short as you please. As with the other trails on this list, all your hard work will be rewarded with stunning views of the entire Hurricane Cliffs trail system.

Guacamole Trail

Finally, if you want a closer look at Zion National Park, you can’t miss a trip to Guacamole Trail. This trail is classified as upper-intermediate, perfect for those with a good bit of experience or experts looking for a challenge. There’s an elevation increase of about 700 feet, and the last half-mile or so is the steepest and most challenging section. While this is one of the toughest Utah mountain biking trails, it’s also one of the prettiest. Skilled riders can finish the trail in around 90 minutes, but for those who want to take it slow, you could easily spend half a day or longer.
