The Dixie Sugarloaf

If you want to include nature and history in your trip, the Dixie Sugarloaf is a can’t-miss attraction. This massive red sandstone rock formation is truly a sight to see! But why is it called the Dixie Sugarloaf? It gets its “sugarloaf” part of its name from the pioneers who once lived here because the structure resembled the sugarloaves that used to be commonplace before granulated and cubed sugar came onto the market. And as for the “dixie” part? The students of Dixie Academy’s class of 1913 had initially painted “1913” on the rock, but the following year, it was replaced with simply “DIXIE.”

The Dixie Sugarloaf is one of the best places to get a photo op in St. George. It’s an outstanding destination that every family should aim to fit into their itinerary! Additionally, this natural structure is entirely free to visit, which can be an incredible adventure for those traveling on a budget. You can view the Sugarloaf from the ground or take a quick hike to see the view from the top! Either way, you and your family are sure to be impressed.
