He is a former collegiate scholarship athlete that played golf for the BYU golf team from 2008, 2011-2015. During his college career at Brigham Young University, one of Mike’s best finishes came during the PING Cougar Classic in 2012. He fired a 70-69-69 for an 8-under-par total and a runner-up finish. He was a consistent contributor to the BYU team throughout his career, making the traveling squad often.
Michael was a two-time Utah State individual champion at Dixie High School and helped lead the Flyers to three-straight Utah 3A state titles from 2005-07.
During his amateur career, Mike found most of his success on the Utah Golf Associations Amateur circuit, where he compiled a total of 15 wins from 2012 to 2015. Currently, he is enrolled in the PGA Apprentice Program, where he is working to become a member of the Professional Golfer’s Association of America.
Following his collegiate career at BYU, Mike spent time in Northern Utah as a teaching professional at TalonsCove Golf Club. With a desire to return home to Southern Utah, he jumped on the opportunity to start another chapter of his career at The Ledges Golf Club.
As a teaching professional, Mike learned the fundamentals of golf from two of the most respected teaching professionals in the state of Utah, Mike Smith, and Kevin Averett. Mike Smith was named teaching professional of year by Golf Digest and the Utah PGA Section during his tenure. Kevin Averett is Southern Utah’s Premiere golf instructor and has been responsible for putting Southern Utah golf on the map. Both of these men have taught many collegiate and professional golfers in the state of Utah.
Kyle Chappell is the Assistant Golf Professional here at The Ledges Golf Club. Having grown up in Richfield, Chappell is a Southern Utah native. Kyle has a decorated background in the game of golf, both as a player and as a golf operations specialist. Before The Ledges Golf Club, he was the Assistant Golf Professional for over 4 years at Coral Canyon in Washington, Utah.
During his playing career, Kyle excelled in both high school and college golf. As a young high school star, he led the Richfield High School golf team to a pair of State Championships. After a great high school career, he was offered an athletic scholarship to play golf at Dixie State University. His career was nothing short of impressive. Chappell qualified for the NCAA National Championship as an individual, where he finished 15th. Additionally, he was named to the All-Conference Team and was a Division II All-American.
As a teaching professional, Kyle works well with individuals of all ages. He learned the game from local club professionals Kash Kennedy, Troy Olsen and his college golf coach, Reed McArthur. Kyle is very personable and willing to meet the needs of any golfer looking to improve his or her game.
